Escama Pop Top Tote Bags Dazzle

Have you heard of Escama? They’re an online fashion boutique, but are much more than that.

totebag made from recycled can tabs

They’re all about wage equality and sustainability, as they work with artisan women in Brazil who make their fabulous recycled pull tab bags. See their awesome mission below.

To achieve our singular aesthetic, the Escama Studio team adapted traditional crochet techniques used in Brazil and imbued this tradition with a modern design sense and new materials. With designs originating from both San Francisco and Brazil, the bags are hand crocheted in Brazil by women’s collectives who are not just contract manufacturers, but an integral part of Escama Studio.

The result is an elegant and striking collection of accessories that illustrates our mission: creating innovative and stylish products from post-consumer and other sustainable materials, through partnerships with producers in underprivileged communities

The bags are a fusion of hundreds of pop can pull tabs and as you can see, the end result is dazzling.

Wedding gowns have their share of designs but if there is one thing impractical about them is that they are normally a one-time wardrobe. Rarely would you hear about wedding dresses being worn again but thanks to some students over at the Sheffield Halam University, here is a wedding dress which could be transformed into five new fashion pieces.

The dress is called sustainable marriage and has been made from polyvinyl This biodegradable substance, knitted within the fabric of the dress material enables the garment, to be readily dissolved in water once it has been worn. The students who designed the dress are all for throwaway fashion.

Glossy White Paper Desk Made of Recycled Cardboard

Posted: 11 May 2010 12:00 AM PDT

This desk seems to be common and should be more or less deceiving if the materials and make were not to be disseminated. However, the Paperweight Desk is really a glossy white desk made from 100% recycled cardboard.

This desk boasts of a white double walled corrugated cardboard and can be assembled in 3 minutes, more or less. While this cool desk does seem environmentally friendly, it doesn't come cheap. I doubt anyone would pay $228 for such a large piece of "paperweight".

Upcycled Cat Toys With Organic Catnip

recycled scrap cat toy

A creative company in Philadelphia is creating cat toys from recycled umbrella fabric.

An extremely ambitious endeavor, if you ask me. The name of the company is Recycling Zychal and they sell their wares via Etsy, the handmade marketplace. The cat toys are made from upcycled umbrella fabric and each one sports organic catnip. They’re awfully cute, too.

As for how they get the fabric? They hold drives and ask consumers to recycle their old or broken umbrellas. they take the fabric and use it to create various products, such as the sustainable cat toys.
