| Posted: 27 Mar 2010 01:09 PM PDT ![]() Plasma TV sets have been lauded for their achievements but it looks like the same technology can be used for something else. At least that is what Prof. Albin Czernichowski from France's University of Orleans claims with this new device called the GlidArc reactor. This device makes use of electrically-charged clouds of gas called "plasmas" which can create clean fuels from waste materials and release less air pollution than diesel. The GlidArc process takes its name from a gliding arc of electricity, that produces a plasma within the reactor. The plasma allows chemical reactions to take place at much lower temperatures than would otherwise be required. (Source) Gizmag Need Green Web Hosting? Check out our latest review of green web hosts. | Eco Faucet Timers Help You Save Water Posted: 27 Mar 2010 01:07 PM PDT ![]() Water faucet designs have come in various designs and shapes but if you talk about coming up with one for the environment then these Eco Faucet Timers should be something sensible to check out. The Turn Rotary Dial Faucet was designed by Eun Ji Byeon which lets you approximate the time of making use of precious water. It does make sense but it does come with some limitations. If 30 seconds are set for washing the hands and you spend a 15 on squeezing the hand-wash out of its bottle, you're practically wasting water here. Well give credit for the idea but it obviously needs more areas for improvement. (Source) Design Launches Need Green Web Hosting? Check out our latest review of green web hosts. | Blind Wine Tasting During Earth Hour Posted: 26 Mar 2010 10:19 PM PDT ![]() Earth Hour will be held later on and while many are planning to cut their electric consumption by switching off their lights for just an hour, others have something else in mind. Some are planning to do something else, turning the hour of darkness into something pleasant like a wine tasting period. In the dark they'll be able to fully savor the excellent qualities of cask wines without knowing they came from a cask, not a glass bottle. Now you don't really have to go out and spend to experience some great tasting wine. You can simply cut off the power and take out a bottle and enjoy…at least for just an hour. | Posted: 26 Mar 2010 10:17 PM PDT ![]() Artificial leaves are among the common items we see today which are being looked upon to harness energy from sunlight and water through photosynthesis. But it looks like this will soon become a reality, thanks mainly to a group of Chinese scientists who have presented a design strategy based on the chemistry and biology of natural leaves. The structure of green leaves provides them with an extremely high light-harvesting efficiency. Within their architecture are structures responsible for focusing and guiding solar energy into the light-harvesting sections of the leaf, and other functions. This design strategy report will be presented at the 239th National Meeting of the American Chemical Society scheduled for this week. (Source) Gizmag Need Green Web Hosting?
