Gays Care More About The Environment Than Hetero’s Posted: 19 Jan 2011 12:45 PM PST According to a recent Harris Poll, those who identify as gay are apparently greener than heterosexuals. The survey asked a variety of questions to gauge green awareness and green activity among both gays and non-gays. The results show that 47% of gays are more “environmentally conscious” and more “concerned about the environment” versus just 28% of heterosexuals. Gays express more concern about the environment than heterosexuals, and the gap between them is growing as U.S. adults overall espouse fewer “green attitudes” than in 2009, finds a recent Harris Poll. What’s more, unlike adults overall, gays showed more green commitment in Harris’ most recent survey than they did in a similar 2009 one. The new survey of 2,352 U.S. adults, of whom 347 self-identified as LGBT, was conducted online from Nov. 8 to Nov. 15 in conjunction with Witeck-Combs Communications, a public relations firm with expertise in the LGBT market. via Usa Today Need Green Web Hosting? Four Loko Beer Turned Into Ethanol Fuel Posted: 19 Jan 2011 10:48 AM PST What do you do when the FDA bans your product from the public because it contains alcohol and caffeine mixed together? If you’re Four Loko you get rid of it by giving it to a waste recycler. In this case the recycler is MXI Environmental Services in Virginia who is taking the caffeine-powered beer and recycling it into ethanol fuel for cars. Nothing is going to waste in MXI’s recycling process. The liquid itself is being distilled down to ethanol that will be blended into gasoline for vehicles. The aluminum cans will be sold to a recycler, and could be back on the shelves as a new beer can in 30 days, according to Potters. Even the cardboard that houses the cans will be recycled. This process began when the FDA banned the makers of Four Loko from selling the drinks to the public, according to PC Magazine. The One Cup from Repurpose Compostables is now the greenest in the world, according to company papers. It’s made from FSC-certified paper and biodegrades within 90 days. Repurpose Compostables CEO Lauren Gropper said the company’s new insulated cup with Ingeo based lining eliminates the need for double cupping which it has found in speaking to vendors is a hidden cost that people don’t realize. “The One Cup also eliminates the need for a sleeve, another wasteful product associated with hot beverages. In many cases vendors are using four individual pieces.
