| Electric Trash Trucks Do their Thing in Paris Posted: 21 Dec 2010 12:02 PM PST ![]() Paris is the place to be as far as eco-friendly waste management cleanup is concerned. Electric-powered trash trucks are expected to patrol the suburbs where the only fumes that will be sniffed are that of rotting food that are included in the local garbage bags. These are 26 ton trucks where each one saves up to about 130 tons of CO2 emissions per year compared to the traditional diesel-powered models. The trash truck, built by PVI Electric Powertrain, features liquid cooled lithium-ion battery packs from Dow Kokam that tout a 10 year usable life and stability in extreme climates. Each truck will have five strings of seven battery packs, which provide the equivalent of 250 kilowatt hours of energy. Need Green Web Hosting? Check out our latest review of green web hosts. | The GM post-oil spill Initiative Posted: 21 Dec 2010 12:01 PM PST ![]() We are all aware of that tragic Gulf of Mexico oil spill and now General Motors has taken the initiative through a social campaign to recycle oil-soaked booms. Actually, they are integrating the idea with the expected coming of the Chevy Volt where the said booms can be used to soak up the oil can be cleaned, processed and turned into Chevrolet Volt parts such as radiator air deflectors. It seems that more than 100 miles of boom, equal to 100,000 pounds of plastic resin that would have been dumped into landfills, are being remolded into usable parts as per the Brand Channel. This is part of GM's array of eco-friendly alternatives which include making 50% of their factories "landfill-free" and recycling at least 97% of their waste. Need Green Web Hosting?
