| Posted: 17 Sep 2010 04:08 AM PDT Winky Boo is a new t-shirt label, based in the U.S, born of the love and imagination of a doting grandfather for his three playful grandchildren which he nicknamed Winky, Boo Boo and Princess. The brand is a one-woman testament to the wonder of playful imagination we have all experienced in our childhood. Amy. L. Fielder’s given moniker was “Princess” due to her habit of wearing every piece of jewellery she owned (including a crown) wherever she went, her siblings were named “Winky” after her performance as a flying monkey in The Wizard of Oz, and the youngest of the three, “Boo”, after the long suffering conscience of Yogi Bear’s friend/confident Boo Boo The Bear. Winky Boo is a fitting testament to the wonder of childhood, and a reminder that no matter how old we are in years, we can all feel young again if we merely view the world as we did in those golden days of wonder, when everything we saw and touched was transformed by the power of a youthful imagination. Life’s tapestry is weaved from experience both joyous and painful, but those first few years of innocent play are something that the cynicism of modern society has managed to forget, and Winky Boo is a fine example of how we can once again recapture that wonder of our youth. Asides the very sweet sentiment, Winky Boo does have a lovely in-house style, with its first three tees in the collection you can already tell they’re going to be popular. They remind me somewhat of the fantastical artwork of The Beatles’ movie Yellow Submarine (one of my all-time faves), rich in colour, and exuding an all pervading sense of youth and vigour that many out there can only find in a bottle of Botox these days. There are four more designs being lined up for the collection as we speak, you can get a sneak preview of them all at Winky Boo’s Facebook page. But for now, let’s take a look at these outstanding examples of what’s in store at Winky Boo. Jester TeeAvailable for men and women in sizes S to XL at $24.99 each, a rather wonderful depiction of a jester, something I used to find rather scary as a kid (oh well each to their own :p). Beautiful colours and line, a little like the “Blue Meanies” meets Victoriana, stylish too! Elephant TeeAvailable for women in sizes S to XL at $24.99 each, as cute as cute can be, who wants a water fight? Yay. With an elephant? Hmmm, where’s that super soaker… Hats TeeAvailable for men in sizes S to XL at $24.99 each, a plethora of mad hatters for your delight, a great design for all those who want to get ahead in life heh. I’d tip mine to Amy if I wore one myself. If you’d like to know more about Wink Boo tees then pop on over to www.winkyboo.com, or hook up with them at Facebook and Twitter. |
