| Posted: 29 Sep 2010 12:30 PM PDT Okay, so nothing about the color of champagne is changing, but producers in Reims, France are looking at ways to reduce the amount of carbon dioxide their champagne produces. Champagne bottles always seem to be very heavy, mainly to deal with the pressure of the champagne, but this means more effort is required to transport the bottles around the world and therefore more carbon dioxide will be emitted. The first step is slimming down the bottles, a process which has already started, to try and help save approximately 8,000 tons a year – the same as taking 4,000 small cars off the road every year; a good effort. via NY Times Need Green Web Hosting? | Volvo Developing Car Panel Batteries Posted: 29 Sep 2010 09:21 AM PDT ![]() It looks like Volvo is cooking up something and it concerns electric transport technology. While that are doesn't really seem surprising considering that most car companies are doing that today, they are planning something interesting, making use of car panels to act as batteries. The Swedish vehicle manufacturer is currently collaborating with the Imperial College in London on a materials development project which could eventually turn your entire vehicle into an ultra-light battery running on all four wheels. Now that is something worth noting but for now, nothing has transpired to make this all happen. Let us hope for the best! Need Green Web Hosting? Check out our latest review of green web hosts. | Yahoo! Plays to Green Consumers Posted: 28 Sep 2010 07:50 PM PDT Yahoo! has recently opened a green data center in New York where it utilises a lot of the weather's natural forces to help remove heat from the center. First up it has been built in a windy spot so as to use the cool winds to remove heat from the data center, which has been built in a long 'chicken-coop' layout so as to maximise the prevailing winds draft. More heat will also be taken out by heat pumps powered by hydroelectricity. This news might well help Yahoo! take a large market share of greener readers for their search engine business which is currently lagging behind Google. If it does win the support of eco minded users, expect more green advancements to come. via Huffington Post Need Green Web Hosting? Check out our latest review of green web hosts. Yahoo! | Apple Refuses to Enter iPhone in UK Green Ranking Program Posted: 28 Sep 2010 05:28 PM PDT There’s an initiative in the UK to allow mobile phones to receive a 'green ranking' label depending on the ecological impact of the raw materials, the recyclability of the device, how long they will last and the manufacturing, packaging and transport. It aims to give consumers a chance to see how green their mobile phone is before buying it and encouraging manufacturers to do more to make their devices green. However Apple has refused for its iPhone to be included in this scheme suggesting that the manufacturing process isn't a particularly green one. If green living is of particular importance to you, you may well be better off considering a different mobile phone with greener credentials over the iPhone. via Guardian Need Green Web Hosting?
