Paris Uses Excess Metro Heat to Warm Houses

Posted: 28 Sep 2010 04:55 PM PDT

Paris' metro service generates a huge amount of heat, as commuters will know sitting on a sweaty platform or in a sweaty carriage, but a new idea is that this heat will be used to heat up water which will then be piped up to houses above and used for under-floor heating. This will not only reduce heating bills for the residents, but it also provides a greener style of living for these residents. Although the metro is already an energy-hungry and polluting method of transport, this new idea may make it a little bit more inviting to commuters who would usually look for greener methods of travel.

This is something that business or even movie houses may want to consider, particularly the ones who are operating for most parts of the day including the dark.

The car is extremely light, thus making energy outflow manageable so that battery life can be lengthened until the next recharge. This remains a concept and as of this writing, nothing definite has been bared if it will every go out of that (being a concept!)
