| Wave and Solar Energy Generator Posted: 17 Sep 2010 07:24 PM PDT ![]() Some Korean designers have come up with an interesting generator, one that runs on solar power or through the “Tides”. Called the WSG, it is meant to solicit energy from ocean tides, waves and the sun. That gives you options so that you do not have to worry about running out of power options. All electricity generated by the system will be transferred to land via underwater cables, where part of the energy generated will be used to glow the system at night so that no ships or boats will run into it by accident. | Glucose Biofuel Cells Could Improve Implantable Body Devices Posted: 17 Sep 2010 07:22 PM PDT ![]() In a scientific breakthrough, some scientists have come up with an implantable body device that could very well aid the modern age of technological medicine. This comes in the form of the glucose biofuel cells which make use of the human body's sugar and oxygen to generate power for potential implantable devices like pacemakers. The new fuel cell uses a unique arrangement of two graphite discs, each containing special enzymes and connected by platinum wire. The entire device is wrapped in a dialysis bag that lets in glucose and oxygen from body fluids. The enzymes react with the glucose and oxygen to create a current that flows along the platinum wire and out of the fuel cell via wires encased in tubing. With the enzymes protected by graphite and the dialysis bag controlling chemical flow, the new glucose biofuel cell is the first to work from inside the abdomen of a living rat, the study team showed.
