New Sanyo Factory Can Manufacture 1M Lithium-Ion Cells a Month

Sanyo has announced a new factory in Kasai City, Hyogo prefecture, Japan, a new structure pegged to manufacture lithium-ion batteries for hybrid and electric vehicles. The new factory should boost Sanyo's bid to be a dominant player in the market, being able to increase their battery production capacity to 1 million a month.

All this was made possible with the joint efforts of Sanyo with the Volkswagen group and Suzuki, although the list is expected to swell from there. Sanyo also produces NiMH batteries for Ford, Honda and PSA Peugeot Citrogen.
