Fagor Ederlan Group Funds Lotus Engine Concept

Lotus unveiled this new engine last year, designed as an onboard generator for electric vehicles which is far better than what traditional batteries provide. The same three-cylinder 1.2 liter engine is now being pushed by the Fagor Ederlan Group as they have forged a deal with Lotus regarding the sale and production of the said engine.

Lotus’ three-cylinder 1.2-liter engine combines block, head, and exhaust manifold in a single piece for efficient construction and low maintenance. The company showed it off as a component of the Evora 414E Hybrid at this year’s Geneva auto show.

Canada Phasing Out Old Coal Power Plants

In a move to help cut down greenhouse gas emissions, Canada is phasing out their old coal power plants as part of its transition towards the use of natural-gas-fired plants their new clean-power standard. This new standard is expected to be in place by 2011 which may in turn force electricity producers to improve or launch new facilities in line with this green alternative.

Canada has 51 coal-fired units producing 19 percent of the country’s electricity and 13 percent of its greenhouse gas emissions. However, 33 of those plants will reach the end of their economic lives by 2025. Unless the operators make substantial investments to cut emissions from the aging facilities, they’ll be required to shut down.
