Ikaros Solar Powered Space Yacht Sends in Images from Space Posted: 18 Jun 2010 12:19 AM PDT Heard of about last year, it seems pictures of Japan's Ikaros solar-powered space yacht have come out. Actually launched last May 21, the spacecraft had its sail stored inside when it was launched before unfurling the sail when it reached outer space. In case you missed it, the JAXA made use of solar photons to propel satellites in outer space to boost energy-efficiency. The polymer sail is just 0.0075mm thick and is partly covered with amorphous silicon solar cells.
