| Student Makes Bicycle-Powered Water Pump Posted: 02 Jun 2010 09:42 PM PDT ![]() All Jon Leary was tasked to do was to come up with something from scraps and just like any creative inventor, he was able to do something more than just convert trash to cash. Leary was able to create a mobile bicycle-powered water pump made from old bicycle parts and discarded pumps which stands to help Guatamela farmers in irrigating their fields. The bike water pump consists of an old electrical pump attached to a metal frame, which pivots around the rear axle of a bicycle. When in transport mode, the frame and pump flip up and rest above the back wheel, so the bicycle can be pedaled. When it's time to pump, the bicycle stops and the frame flips down underneath the back wheel, with the bike's tire resting against the armature of the pump. Need Green Web Hosting?
