Sam Way - Confessions of a Male Supermodel
Tell us a little about yourself - (where you grew up, your life - anything you wish to tell) Okay! so...... I grew up in a small town called Crediton in Devon. The most exciting thing that ever happened there was the alleged birth of "St Boniface" the man who is accredited partly for the integration of the famed Christmas tree into our festive celebrations. So a pretty dull environment to grow up in on reflection. I went through school as standard, got into rugby, began playing for the county and then, on a trip up to London with my mum, got spotted by Models1 in the Oxford St, Topshop. I was 15 at the time, and didn't know what to think of it. My mate Myles, who was with there with me began spreading the gospel through school that I was now officially a model for TOPMAN. Eventually M1 organised a test shoot and took me onto their books. The first few jobs were for girls magazines. My mum made the trip up to London every time and made sure I was suitably embarrassed for the duration of the shoot. The first big job I got was ironically for TOPMAN. From then on, I tried to balance school with modelling, sometimes un-equally, and decided after I'd finished my A levels, that I would do it full time for a while. Diesel and Paco were great fun. But I still haven't made my mind up yet about acting. I think its hard, a lot harder than people think, and not everyone can do it. The last thing you want to do is become some horrible model turned actor cliche' and then absolutely prove to people through your lack of talent that you should of stayed being 'just a pretty face'. But I never shut doors. If someone were to approach me and offer me an audition/script/part. I would always give it the best I could. If you weren't a model what would you like to do instead?
Nope....I'm an enigma (Thats pretty hard to believe considering that his videos on a youtube have received over a 100000 views. and hes got several facebook fan pages and message boards dedicated to him) What has been the memorable point of your career? What kind of jobs would you like to do in the future? I'm easy as far a jobs go. I'd love to work with Bruce again. He really supported me when I was starting out in this industry. But I'd also love to shoot a campaign where I'm allowed to smile and not have to look like I want to hit someone. Whats the craziest thing you have ever done?If somebody has no secrets they become less enchanting. The crazy stuff stays with me. I think people would be surprised to know that.....I'm just a regular guy....one who's been incredibly lucky....(dare I say blessed). But if that's far too humble an answer and not surprising enough I can also pull a sick back-flip off a wall, do magic tricks, am writing a book, love cooking, I'm a porridge fanatic and was on the BBC news when I was about 5 for having a rare condition called Henoch-Schonlein Purpura which nearly killed me. In your job you get to travel a lot. Where is your favourite place that you have been to? By far the best place I have been to is Marrakesh. It's like nowhere else I've been to, and literally blew my mind. I urge anyone who's reading this (Hi by the way, and thanks for taking the time to read this) to just go..as soon as possible. Special thanks to Sam Way. More Recent Articles |
