Once this tower is completed, it will be one of the greenest skyscrapers in the world. The Pearl River Tower is a 71 story building which will incorporate the latest green technology and engineering advancements.

Its distinctive sculpted body is designed to direct wind to the pair of funnel-like openings at its mechanical floors, which are located roughly one third and two thirds of the way up the building.

Other eco-friendly elements contributing to the building's energy efficiency include under floor ventilation air, daylight harvesting and a ceiling system that incorporates chilled water piping to cool rooms by natural convection and radiation heat transfer.

Tiny Wind Powered Supercharger

Posted: 03 Apr 2010 12:47 AM PDT

Here is an interesting new supercharger from Humdinger. It is a tiny wind-powered charger which fits right in the palm of your hand and is said to be ten times more effective at generating energy from the wind. It features an "aeroelastic flutter and vibration of a membrane" for the wind power, the actual amount of energy generated by the device is tiny, although it is incredibly efficient.

The devices could also be used in other applications, for example if you were able to put enough of these on an electric car, it would be able to generate enough power to charge the cars battery whilst the vehicle is moving.
