Chair Made From Recycled Microscope Case

Posted: 20 Mar 2010 12:40 PM PDT

Very cool and imaginative chair has been created by Netherlands designer Rachel Griffin.

chair made from a recycled microscope case

The seat chair is made from old chair parts and a recycled black microscope case of all things. I’m not sure if there’s a surplus of old microscope cases over in the Netherlands, but I have a feeling there are plenty in US gently used shops; like the Salvation Army or Goodwill. Rachel has outdone herself with the SeatCase, as she calls it.

The Backpack Power Plant

Posted: 20 Mar 2010 10:57 AM PDT

The Backpack Power Plant should be something useful for our energy crisis. This is one portable energy rendering solution that could help. This is a human-portable hydroelectric generator that creates clean, quiet power from any stream.

They will come in two versions, the BPP-1 designed for civilians and the BPP-2 designed for the military. They were recently unveiled at the Cleantech Forum in San Francisco. Both measure three feet in length and weigh less than 30 pounds, though the military version is 10% lighter. Both are self-contained with their own integrated power, control, cooling and sensor systems. They collapse into a backpack-sized module comprising three parts; the generator, hub and folded stored blades.

These things are actually available but at $3,000, expect some people to pass on it for now. These power packs were designed by Bourne Energy.

Waterfalls Power Solar City Tower

If there is one model that should be both breathtaking and educational, the Solar City Tower should be it. Designed by RAFAA with the 2016 Olympic Games in , the Solar City Tower is not only a tourist attraction but a landmark that makes use renewable energy.

This tower is powered by solar energy and a waterfall. With two sources of power to back it up, this is certainly more than an attraction but a model that companies and consumers can certainly learn from.
