This is of course excluding the crank-style remote controls we have seen come out recently. But now we have one that doesn't make use of any batteries at all. These new remotes being developed at the moment get their power from a small source called piezoelectric power. The prototype TV remote control being shopped around to various manufacturers works on the “piezoelectric effect”, which in a nutshell converts mechanical stresses like pressure and vibration into electrical energy. These prototype remotes will be displayed at the Embedded Technology 2009 exhibition on November 18 through 20 at the PACIFICO Yokohama convention complex.
