recycled denim jeans

If you live in the Chubbuck area you still have time to donate your old denim at the Pine Ridge Mall.

Feel free to bring in any old pair of jeans, in any condition and they will get recycled into insulation and used in Habitat For Humanity homes.

They note that the jeans literally can be in any condition – torn, worn or scorned – the jeans will be accepted. But you better hurry, as the deadline to drop off your old denim is tomorrow, Tuesday November 3rd.

Mural Art Made From Recycled Marble Tiles

el paso mural

(**not the mural mentioned in article)

In El Paso, Texas students and faculty erect a mural made from recycled marble tiles.

University of New Mexico at Albuquerque students and artist Roberto Salas wanted to create art that showed “there are a bunch of ways to be an artist”. Loosely translated, this means that cool art can be made using upcycled materials.

The 200 foot long wall mural was completed in a week and finished just a few days ago, all made using reclaimed marble tiles.

**I could not find a pic of the mural in question, the one above is a mural from another university project.

2010 US Census Questionnaire Paper To Be Recycled

Posted: 02 Nov 2009 11:47 AM PST

2010 census workers

The government has announced that it will recycle 600 million US Census questionnaires.

This is the first year that the US Census has begun a recycling effort, no doubt with Obama behind the White House, this initiative will go as planned and reach its goal.

What is the goal? To send the questionnaires to the national recycling plant in Indiana and sell the material to contractors. The proceeds will then go towards federal childcare facilities all over the country.

With 600 million questionnaires, this effort should raise quite abit of money.

The solar bird house featured months ago, is actually now available for order here.

OOOMS designed a birdhouse with a solar panel on it's roof. During the day sunlight feeds the solar panel , charging a small battery inside. At twilight the transparent stick will light up and cast a tiny light on your garden.

How to Recycle Old Gate into an Outdoor Table!

outdoor-table

If you want to be more green, you might also want to consider doing some wood recycling work around your house such as recycling an old gate into an outdoor table.  Not only is this sensible, you might end up with a great outdoor table like the one seen in this picture.

The gates at the side of our house succumbed to a big wind storm recently. The cause was ground rot on the posts, but that meant that most of the wood was still in pretty good condition despite being over thirty years old. Instead of throwing it out my wife suggested recycling it to make an outdoor table.

2010 Olympic Medals to be Made of Old PC Parts

For the coming 2010 Olympics and Paralympic Winter Games, all winners will receive medals made from something recycled such as an old circuit board. Vancouver metals giant Teck Resources is producing and supplying the medals along with the Royal Canadian Mint. Apparently this is one answer to that question in mind on where the old computer and busted gadgets are going. Scraps! But these are not hideous scraps, rather they are something that most people treasure, a crowning achievement for their participation in competitions. I guess the saying is true that you garbage will come back to you, but in a different and more recipient way eh?

Flat-Pack "Eco" Speakers

With so many eco speakers coming out, here is something that may sound the same but is actually different. These Flat-Pack Eco Speakers are made from 100% recycled materials which includes drivers and the housings. They cost only $15 but apparently are sold out. They should be great for people looking at innovative designs to deliver audio on a certain extent, maybe for portable media players.
