Bionic Boondoggle: Sales, Giveaways and Site News

Posted: 19 Oct 2009 01:11 PM PDT

I haven’t put together a Bionic Boondoggle for quite some time… but I have quite a few small tidbits of news to share, so I thought today would be perfect! There’s a huge sale at Sephora, a fantastic Mario Badescu giveaway, and a new blogroll member…

Sephora's 2009 Friends and Family beauty, makeup and cosmetics sale

First up… it’s Sephora’s Family and Friends Sale time! The sale launched today (October 19th) and runs through November 2nd. You’ll get 20% off almost all of their cosmetics, makeup, skin care, hair care, nail polish, etc.
Simply use the coupon code FF2009 when you check out. Plus orders over $50 get FREE shipping!

One bit of warning, I recommend you shop as soon as possible since this sale is so popular. It’s not uncommon for items to sell out within a few days.

Other specials at Sephora.com…

  • Get a free Bare Escentuals 10 day trial makeup kit with a mini kabuki brush with any order. Use discount code TRYBE at checkout.
  • Get a free Bare Escentuals Buxom mini lip gloss. You even get to pick your shade! You do have to register to be a Beauty Insider for this special to apply (but it’s free to join). Use coupon code BUXOMKISS at checkout.

With all those great discounts and freebies, who can resist a little Sephora.comSephora Friends and Family 2009 makeup and beauty sale shopping! What do you plan on buying?

Mario Badescu skin care is having a fabulous contest for acne suffers! I adore their Buffering Lotion and Drying Cream. Five lucky winners will receive a consultation with one of our skin specialists and a customized regimen of Mario Badescu Skin Care products. Don’t delay… head over to MarioBadescu.com to enter now!

I’ve also added a new link to the Bionic Beauty “blogroll”. This is the official welcome to the Cosmetology School Guys “Beauty Schools” website. Beauty Schools is a thorough guide for people seeking a certified cosmetology school. It’s simple to navigate and since some of you may be looking along this career path, I thought it may be helpful to include. Have a visit and tell them Bionic Beauty sent you!

You can find a rotating list of my favorite sites in the far right sidebar under Links Bionic Loves. It refreshes with a few new sites every time you visit! If you’d like to view the entire list of my favorite sites, simply visit the Bionic Beauty Blogroll page.

New York’s Top Spas

Posted: 19 Oct 2009 05:19 AM PDT

This week, we’re using Oyster.com to take a look at the Best Hotel Spas in New York City. Personally, I’d love to spend some rest and relaxation time in the Big Apple, but preferably when it’s a little warmer!

1. Mandarin Oriental, New York
Mandarin Oriental, New York

  • Price: $991/night

This gorgeous spa, with Asian accents and fresh orchids throughout, offers a full range of treatments, from manicures to massages. A 50-minute massage runs over $200, and most treatments are over $300. But if you purchase a spa treatment, you also get access to Experience Showers, an Amethyst Crystal Steam Room, and a Vitality Pool. (Only guests staying in suites have free access to these facilities; other guests can pay $50 per stay to use them.) For the ultimate in luxury, guests can book a private, 650-square-foot VIP spa suite that replicates an Asian-style home and has its own fireplace, elevated bath, steam shower, and dual massage beds.

2. Affinia Dumont
Affinia Dumont

  • Price: $337/night

The Dumont’s Oasis Day Spa is world-class, as you might expect at a hotel whose focus is fitness and wellness. It offers massages, skin care, and body treatments, and the dark inner sanctum has plenty of candles and a healthy dose of soothing, Asian-influenced spa music.

3. The Plaza
The Plaza

  • Price: $838/night

Similar to its other locations in Bordeaux and Spain, the 8,000-square-foot Caudalie Vinotherapie Spa at the Plaza focuses on all-natural, grape-based treatments. (The wine theme comes naturally for the French founders, who own the Bordeaux vineyards of Chateau Smith Haut Lafitte.) Crushed Cabernet scrubs can be followed up with a glass of wine. The spa has received a flurry of media coverage since it opened in October 2008.

4. The Carlyle, A Rosewood Hotel
The Carlyle, A Rosewood Hotel

  • Price: $802/night

Sense Spa just opened this newly renovated facility in October 2008. It has a sparkly, mosaic-tiled staircase that leads guests to its beautiful treatment rooms below, where Sisley products enhance the wide range of spa treatments. The prices aren’t likely to enhance your serenity — they start at $280. Given about 24 hours’ notice, though, the spa can arrange treatments at almost any time of day for guests. If you arrive at 6:45 a.m. and need 90 minutes of Sento Vital Flow to refresh, they’ll make it work.

5. Dream
Dream

  • Price: $359/night

Dream’s Chopra Center & Spa is a yoga, meditation and Ayurvedic spa facility spun off from celebrity guru Deepak Chopra’s original California location. The spa’s Ayurvedic therapies use oils, herbs, and aromas supposedly tailored to each customer.

6. The Benjamin
The Benjamin

  • Price: $467/night

The Benjamin, one of the themed Affinia hotels, is dedicated to providing its guests with a restful night’s sleep. Its in-house, full-service Affinia Wellness Spa offers signature sleep-enhancing treatments like the Sleep Well-Ness Massage (50 min., $130) and Sweet Dreams Aromatherapy Facial (50 min., $130). In-room massages are available for an extra $40 on top of the regular fee.

7. The Waldorf Astoria
The Waldorf Astoria

  • Price: $450/night

The 14,000-square-foot Guerlain Spa, one of two in the U.S., the other being at the posh Regent Bal Harbour hotel in Miami, opened in September 2008 and offers a wide range of luxurious treatments using the Guerlain brand’s signature products. Most spa treatments (including those tailored for men) cost $300 to $500, but the highest of the high-end experiences is the $2,175 Sublime Deluxe transforming day experience, which lasts seven hours and 45 minutes.

8. W New York
W New York

  • Price: $443/night

The W New York houses one of the city’s most popular spas, Bliss, which originated in New York but has now expanded into franchises all over the world (usually in conjunction with W Hotels). Located on the hotel’s fourth floor, this brightly lit spa with cloud-covered walls and a happy blue color scheme has an extensive menu of available treatments. Compared to other luxury hotel spas, the prices are reasonable – manicures start at $25, massages at $70, and waxes at $15. There is also a Bliss boutique on the first floor of the hotel, and all guests receive complimentary Bliss toiletries. Note that the other W properties in Manhattan don’t have spas, so spa junkies should be sure to check in to this location.

Freebies Found: Burt’s Bees, StayFree and more

Posted: 18 Oct 2009 09:37 PM PDT

Get free skin care, body care samples from the Bionic Beauty blog
Happy Monday, Bionic Beauties! And what’s a better way to kick off the week than with a large round of freebies?

  • Get a free sample of Hussana’s Halal body care products. It’s a mystery which one you’ll get a sample of, but maybe we can all report back and share our experiences with the range. Personally, I haven’t heard of this brand, so I’m anxious to see how it works out!
  • StayFree is offering lots of freebies lately. Fill out the short form to have a few of their pads mailed right to you door!
  • Get a free Victoria’s Secret PINK panty plus a coupon good for $10 off a bra. I know this isn’t really cosmetics related, but hey… all us gals can use a free set of VS undies, right? Especially since they are so darn pricey!! You’ll need to login (it’s free to register or you can login using your Facebook account- look for the link on the left hand side, midway down), then request away.

The following free samples are available on the StartSampling.com website. These samples are sponsored and mailed by the manufacturer, but Start Sampling requires you to register if you want to request more than 1 sample at a time. It’s quick and easy to register, and I don’t seem to get any spam from being a member.

Enjoy, ladies!
