Fall 2009: Color Club Dark Romance matte polishes

Posted: 19 Sep 2009 05:19 AM PDT

Matte polishes are everywhere for fall 2009. Whether you like the idea or not, it is refreshing to see the polish industry creating something different and unusual.

Color Club’s Dark Romance collection is their entry into the ever-expanding matte nail polish world.
The collection comes with silver, black and white semi matte mini nail colors, plus a matte top coat that you can apply for the mattification of any of your normal nail polish. (Yeah, okay you caught me. I made up “mattification” but I like it.)

The matte’s in this collection are a good “entry level” into the trend- they dry to a more satin sheen. You won’t have the “flat wall paint” look that scares some ladies.

And now, onto the swatches…

Color Club matte polish in Smoke and Mirrors

Smoke and Mirrors is a brilliant bright silver metallic. The application is a breeze and the matte finish, while being metallic is a very cool effect. This color certainly isn’t for the shy at heart- it’s an attention grabber! My picture is just 2 coats, great coverage!

Alabaster is your typical white cream polish but of course dries to a semi-matte finish. I did 3 coats just to make sure everything was evened out.

Color Club Dark Romance nail polish collection - Dark Romance swatchDark Romance is pitch black. No frost, no shimmer. Just a semi-flat black cream. I didn’t think I would like this polish as much as I do. In my head, a black matte polish seemed a bit harsh. I’ve mostly been playing with grays, browns and blues. But Dark Romance pulls it off. Again, don’t wear this polish if you don’t have the guts. Wear it, and rock it ladies!

Color Club’s Dark Romance collection launched on August 1st and is available in Color Club salons or online at Victoria Nail Supply for $4.95 for the set.

Is the matte nail trend growing on you or will you let this one breeze by?
