| Farmers Market Comes To The White House Posted: 17 Sep 2009 12:51 PM PDT
President Obama has been granted a wish. To “have a little farmers market near the White House”. An outdoor farmers market will be held every Thursday from September 17th till October 29 and will carry veggies, fruits, meat, eggs, cheese and baked goods. The White House market will be organized by non-profit group Fresh Farm Markets and will be open to the public. President Obama says this is not only a great way for residents to have access to good local food, but also become a huge source of revenue for local farmers. If I lived anywhere near DC, I would totally patronize the White House farmer’s market. Kudos to the Obama’s for encouraging healthy eating. via Earth 911 via New York Times Need Green Web Hosting? More and more companies are embracing social responsibility with ecommerce. The double if not triple bottom line. It’s not easy and usually it’s more expensive, so all the more respect to the companies doing it. One such company is WearPact, an organic underwear retailer with administrative offices in California. This company is aiming for 100% sustainability and you can clearly see this on their website’s ingredient page. Through this page they detail every step of their production process, from creation to packaging, from shipping and everything else. All there in plain view. It’s amazing the effort put forth by WearPact in being as earth-friendly as possible. They also donate a good percentage of their profits to several causes, including an ocean conservation charity. Oh! and the underwear is not bad either. They have super cute prints for both men and women and each undie is made using 95% organic cotton with 5% elastane for durability and proper fit. | Posted: 17 Sep 2009 08:19 AM PDT ![]() Just because you are using environmental or recycled shopping bags doesn't mean that you are totally eco-friendly. For one, have you kept count on how many of these things you have around? If you figure it out mathematically, it may come to a point where you may have an excess number of bags lying around. And once that happens, you have an entirely new waste problem since tendency is you will throw them away and then add to the landfill issues we are encountering today. However, with some creativity you can make use of them in a different way. Try shopping bag pillow covers which if don't right can really be a new fashion statement to liven up your home. Rather than throw them away, this is an alternative way of making use of them, shying away from adding a new issue as far as garbage problems are concerned. (Source) Popgadget Need Green Web Hosting?
